Increasing attention has focused on the issue of latex allergy, especially in the medical environment where many medical supplies and devices have traditionally contained latex, or natural rubber. Reactions to this type of latex range from contact dermatitis to lgE-mediated allergy with serious respiratory or systemic involvement.

Latex, or Natural Rubber Crude Latex, is an emulsion or suspension produced by some seed plants, most notably the Hevea Brazilienses tree originating from the Amazon region. This tree contains microscopic globules that are filtered, preserved and processed into the consumer form of latex, or natural rubber. Reactions to the natural form of latex may be caused by latex-specific proteins or by one or more of the chemicals added during the processing.

For people with latex allergy, exposure to this product can cause untoward and even severe body reactions. At Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery we have made provisions to assure maximum safety for people who have latex allergy.

At our Los Angeles plastic surgery center, one of our operating rooms is completely latex free. In fact, no latex product has ever been used in this designated operating room. Therefore, there is unlikely to be any latex residue from any previous procedures. During your consultation, your Los Angeles plastic surgeon will review your medical history with you. If you have an allergy or sensitivity to latex, please let your plastic surgeon know. We will make arrangements to make your plastic surgery experience completely free of latex.
